Sunday, March 8

  • Arrive at Oaxaca Airport, if on recommended flights, shuttle transportation will be provided to the hotel

  • Check in at Hotel Catrina de Alcala

  • A light snack is provided at the hotel, followed by a walk with Patrick around the neighborhood

  • 7:30 Dinner at Restaurante Coronita

Monday, March 9: The Human Figure and Atmosphere

  • 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Breakfast at Hotel Catrina de Alcalá.

    Start the week with a relaxed breakfast together, preparing for the workshop's first day.

  • 9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Short Walk and Warm-Up Sketching.

    A gentle stroll near the hotel to observe and capture the morning light and daily life of Oaxaca through quick sketches — an introduction to atmosphere and rhythm.

  • 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Painting Session at Rolando Rojas’s Studio — Live Model in Authentic Oaxacan Dress.:

    Guided by Patrick Palmer, artists will work from a live model dressed in traditional Oaxacan attire, exploring gesture, proportion, and the expressive qualities of fabric, texture, and color.

  • 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch at Rolando Rojas’s Studio.

    Enjoy an informal meal surrounded by art and conversation.

  • 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Afternoon Painting Session.

    Continue developing the morning study — refining form, color, and composition inspired by the model’s presence and Oaxacan identity.

  • 7:00 PM: Welcome Dinner.

    Evening gathering to celebrate the beginning of the workshop week — a time to share impressions, inspiration, and camaraderie.

Tuesday, March 10: Experiencing Rolando’s World of Art and Technique

  • 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Breakfast at Catrina de Acala

    A sample of traditional atole will be served at the hotel during breakfast.

  • 9:15 AM – 9:30 AM: Travel to Rolando Rojas’s Studio.

  • 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Painting Session and Demonstration by Rolando Rojas.

    Experience a special demonstration by Maestro Rolando Rojas, who will share his process and technique — layering, texture, and color drawn from the earth. Artists will then begin applying similar principles to their own works.

Wednesday, March 11: Ancient Spaces and Living Walls

  • 9:00 AM: Depart from Hotel Catrina de Alcalá.

  • 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM: Visit Monte Albán Archaeological Zone.

    Explore one of the most important ancient Zapotec cities. Observe its geometry, textures, and monumental balance. Take time for sketching and photography, focusing on light, shadow, and spatial rhythm, elements that will later inspire your paintings.

  • 11:30 AM: Travel to Jalatlaco.

  • 11:50 AM – 12:50 PM: Walk through Jalatlaco.

    Discover this colorful neighborhood filled with murals, doors, and textured walls. Artists may do quick sketches or take photographs of architectural details, street scenes, and color combinations for future compositions.

  • 1:00 PM: Travel to Asador Bacanora.

  • 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Lunch at Asador Bacanora.
    Enjoy contemporary Oaxacan cuisine in a relaxed setting.

  • 2:40 PM: Return to Rolando Rojas’s Studio.

  • 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Painting Session at Rolando Rojas’s Studio.

    Develop works inspired by Monte Albán’s architecture and Jalatlaco’s textures — connecting ancient structures and modern life through form and color.

  • 7:00 PM: Dinner at Levadura de Olla

Thursday, March 12: From Observation to Still Life

  • 9:00 AM: Depart from Hotel Catrina de Alcalá.

  • 9:10 AM – 10:40 AM: Mercado 20 de Noviembre — Sketching and Observation. Visit the market to sketch, photograph, and observe. Capture shapes, textures, and colors that define daily life in Oaxaca. Select elements — fruits, pottery, textiles, or light — to inspire your still life painting.

  • 10:40 AM – 11:00 AM: Return to Rolando Rojas’s Studio.

  • 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Painting Session at Rolando Rojas’s Studio.
    Translate your morning observations into sketches or color studies. Guided by Patrick Palmer, focus on composition and mood inspired by the market’s visual energy.

  • 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Lunch at Rolando Rojas’s Studio.
    Enjoy an informal meal surrounded by art and conversation.

  • 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Resume Painting Session at Rolando Rojas’s Studio.
    Develop works inspired by Monte Albán’s architecture and Jalatlaco’s textures, connecting ancient structures and modern life through form and color.

  • 4:00 PM - 4:15 PM: Travel to Fernando Andriacci’s Studio

  • 4:15 PM to 5:30 PM: Visit Fernando Andriacci’s Studio

    Experience an intimate studio session with Fernando Andriacci, who will share his techniques, multi-media process, and distinctive pictorial language.

  • 7:30 PM: Dinner at Asador Vasco.

    Gather for a group dinner featuring Oaxacan cuisine and live marimba, a joyful close to the day’s creative work.

Friday, March 13: Closure and Celebration

  • 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Final Studio Session at Rolando Rojas’s Studio.

    Spend the morning finishing your paintings, reviewing your progress, and sharing your creative journey with the group. This final session is dedicated to reflection, detail, and personal expression — bringing the week’s experiences together on canvas.

  • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Wrap-Up and Packing.

    Prepare your works and materials for transport. The studio team will assist with coordination and packaging.

  • 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM: Return to Hotel Catrina de Alcalá.

    Relax or enjoy free time before the evening celebration.

  • 7:00 PM: “Fiestas de Frida” Dinner at Hotel Catrina de Alcalá.

    Celebrate creativity, friendship, and the week’s achievements with a festive dinner inspired by Frida Kahlo’s spirit and colors, a joyful closing to an unforgettable workshop.

Saturday, March 14

  • Early Morning: Check out of the hotel. If on recommended flights, shuttle transportation is provided to the airport.
