THIS IS MY LAND

Video Transcript in English

My name is Valentina Atkinson, and I am presenting a series of murals that I created in 1995, evoking the most beautiful places we have in Mexico: Taxco, Oaxaca, Mexico City, San Angel, Puebla kitchens, and other corners that remind us of our beloved Mexico.

The work is inspired by a poem by Mexican poet Fidela Cabrera, translated from Spanish below:

This is my land where the trees are covered

with the romance of birds.

It is a place chosen by the butterflies.

My brush is the harp

that vibrates with its music

and the blue of its gourds,

and the magenta of the clay.

Oh! the red of your tiles

slipping in the afternoon

to the sound of the bells.

Fidela Cabrera (1995)

Visit us from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon, Monday to Saturday from today until February 20, at Silver Street Studios in Sawyer Yards.
