Adán Paredes is a Mexican archaeologist, sculptor, and contemporary abstract ceramist whose practice centers on the symbolic and ancestral resonance of clay. Paredes’s background in archaeology, along with long-standing collaborations with architecture and interior design studios, informs his sensitivity to volume, structure, and spatial relationships. These influences are evident in the architectural presence of his sculptural forms, which engage in a quiet dialogue with their surrounding environments.
Rooted in the cosmogonies of ancient cultures, his work approaches clay as both material and metaphor, connecting earth, ritual, memory, and transformation. Guided by a spirit of experimentation, Paredes has expanded his practice to include glass, metal, and steel, allowing these materials to intersect with clay and deepen his visual language. From his studio, Los Alacranes, in Santo Domingo Barrio Alto, Etla, Oaxaca, he continues to create work that bridges ancestral knowledge and contemporary abstraction.
