Serrano Gallery Presents N I Z I E : Flor de agua, a Solo Exhibition by Luvia Lazo, as Part of the 2026 FotoFest Biennial
Houston, TX — March 7–March 30, 2026 — Serrano Gallery is pleased to present N I Z I E : Flor de agua (Water Flower), a solo exhibition by acclaimed Zapotec photographer Luvia Lazo, on view from March 7 through March 30, 2026, as part of the 2026 FotoFest Biennial.
In N I Z I E : Flor de agua, Lazo invites viewers into the deep soul of Oaxaca through poetic, intimate photographs that reflect everyday life, cultural continuity, and transformation. Her images embody the concept of the “water flower”—fragile and transparent, yet powerful in resonance—capturing moments that exist between tradition and modernity. Through her lens, the intimate becomes universal, revealing the strength, sensitivity, and resilience of her community and Zapotec heritage.
Luvia Lazo is a contemporary Zapotec photographer whose work documents shifting identities and generational change in Oaxaca from an Indigenous woman’s perspective. She has received numerous honors, including the Jóvenes Creadores FONCA Grant (2020) and the inaugural Indigenous Photo Grant (2021) supported by Leica and Photoville.

In this exhibition, Luvia Lazo invites us to see through her eyes and her lens the deep soul of Oaxaca. Her photographs are visual poetry, reflecting the everyday beauty of her land, the strength of her Zapotec roots, and the delicacy with which she observes her people and surroundings.
Luvia transforms each moment into a water flower: fragile and transparent, yet powerful in its resonance. Within her images we discover the essence of a community living between tradition and modernity, and the sensitivity of an artist who turns the intimate into the universal.
